Description

This is the first publication to focus on Nasreen Mohamedi’s seminal group of “Grid” works from the 1970s. This body of work exhibited at Documenta 12 in 2007 was then brought together in the solo exhibition “the grid, unplugged” at Talwar Gallery in 2008. Employing just a pen and pencil on a square piece of paper Mohamedi transformed them into a tour de force. Remarkably executed decades ago in an environment where narrative and figurative art was the rule, Mohamedi’s clarity of pursuit and resolve is matched only by the taut tensile energy resonating through the lines. Dismantling the rigidity of the grid, she infuses them with a dynamic rhythm that at times soars, dives, expands, and collapses. With several full-page reproductions, and some almost life-size, this publication is the closest that comes to experiencing her works

besides the real thing.
